Three Nations Meet

Our school, the Berze Nagy Janos Secondary Grammar School, thanks to the Erasmus+ project, and the hard work of our staff, is part of, and the coordinater school of the Nations’ Puzzle project.
On November 18th we had our first transnational meeting, for which delegates from Sicilian Basile-D’Aleo and Spanish IES Sierra de Guaderrama schools came to visit Hungary. The first meeting was staged in our school library, where after a short opening speech the three countries showcased their mobility programs, including destinations, timeframe, jobs and goals, and also thanked us for this wonderful opportunity. Our city’s television crew was also on site, and interviewed our guests. After this they took part in a welcoming party during which they could taste many Hungarian delicacies. The newcomers also surprised us with different kinds of cheese and desserts from their own countries.

After getting to know each other a bit more presentations followed. This time they were about the startup company we have to create in the next 24 months, and a bit later we listened to a couple of our students talk about the history, community and interesting parts of our school. To finish off the day we took our new friends on a tour of Gyongyos, and showed them the main sights. And in conclusion they took part in a tour of the Matra museum and wine tasting.

On the third day of their journey we went on a trip to our capital, Budapest. Hop on-hop off busses helped us see the main attractions of the city. They saw all of our famous sites, Hosok tere, museums, galleries, the castle of Buda, many bridges and last but not least the Citadel. Our next stop was the Parliament building, where we took a guided tour and amazed the Spanish and Italian partners. For lunch we did our best to introduce them to more national foods, and our guests happily tried everything brought out of the kitchen. In the afternoon we went on a boat trip on the Danube, and thanks to that we could see the city from a whole new perspective. Of course the favourite part of the excursion for some, the shopping wasn’t forgotten either, and we went home richer in memories and souvenirs. On our last day together we discussed the tasks needed to be done before the next meeting, and created a blog, through which we will write about the things happening.

Our guests also got to see what one of our days looks like and met some of our schools students.
Although during these few days we created great friendships, it was also a good feeling to say goodbye, because we knew the first step had been made to a two-year long journey, and it will be the adventure of a lifetime.

The GyTv (television of Gyöngyös) also recorded interviews on the first transnational meet which you can watch here (from 6:46):
